Prof. Karen Anderson, M.A. M.L.S.

Karen Anderson, MA, MLS, has a BA in English, Phi Beta Kappa, from the University of Iowa and writing published in periodicals including Confluence: The Journal of Graduate Liberal Studies and the International Reading Association’s Reading Today. At UCLA, her Library and Information Science curriculum included graduate course work in the Department of Theater, Film, and Television, an internship with the American Film Institute library, and a research assistantship at the UCLA Film and Television Archive. While completing her Marshall University MA, Literature and Culture emphasis, she served on the planning committee for the program/course Moving Toward Freedom: Slavery and Resistance and as adjunct faculty teaching human diversity classes at WVSU. She has formerly taught business and technical writing at WVSU, in addition to her present duties teaching composition and introductory literature while recruiting and supervising lab assistants in the English Department computer/multimedia classrooms. The department’s decade-long partnership with Kanawha County Public Library’s book discussion programs began with her first role as facilitator in 2004; all programs she has presented emphasize the intersection of literature and film. Professor Anderson’s prior professional experience includes teaching K-12 and serving as academic reference librarian, print publicist, and advertising copywriter.
