student spotlight

West Virginia State students come from different places, different situations, and each have a different reason for why they chose to attend WVSU. Each week, a current student takes part in a question-and-answer style interview to share what brought them to WVSU, what their dreams entail and a few fun extras to help showcase the talent and diversity among the many students across our campus.





Amanda Thomasson is a freshman Communications major from Stockholm, Sweden. She is a member of WVSU’s Women’s Tennis team and hopes to work internationally because she speaks three languages – Swedish, English and Spanish. Here’s a little bit more about her.







 Kelsey Snyder 


Meet Kelsey Snyder, a senior Social Work major from Nitro, West Virginia. She is president of the WVSU chapter of Phi Alpha Honor Society. She is also currently an intern at The Service Station in Poca where she works with individuals with intellectual disabilities and tries to empower them to live as independently as possible with lifestyle skills and job skills. Kelsey hopes to continue working with the disabled community after she graduates next May. Here’s a little bit more about her.



 


Jeanette Williams


Meet Jeanette Williams, a junior bachelor’s in Health Science student with a focus on community health education. She is from Yukon, West Virginia, and is an online student at WVSU. She is also secretary of the National Society of Leadership and Success at the university.   Already working full-time, Jeanette hopes to help implement programs directed toward employee health and wellness.  Here's a little bit more about her.






​Daniya Khan


Meet Daniya Khan! She is a junior Business Management major from Chicago with roots in Pakistan and Dubai. She wants to explore life and see where it takes her, but she hopes to eventually be her own boss – an entrepreneur - whether that means something with marketing, management or human resources, only time will tell, she says.  Here's a little bit more about her. 






Colin Boehm

Meet Colin Boehm! He is a senior Math Education major from Portsmouth, Ohio. He is a member of the Yellow Jackets football team and Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society in Education. He hopes to become a high school math teacher and a football coach. Currently, he is student teaching at George Washington High School in Charleston. Here's a little bit more about him. 







Grant Alderman


Meet Grant Alderman, a sophomore criminal justice and law enforcement major from Charleston, West Virginia who also plays golf for WVSU. Here’s a little bit more about him.







Kasey Murphy


Meet Kasey Murphy! She’s a graduate student from Coal Grove, Ohio, who is working on her master’s in Criminal Justice degree. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from WVSU and is a softball player for the Lady Yellow Jackets. She would like to pursue a career with the FBI. Here’s a little bit more about her.
