Two West Virginia State University Students Selected for Prestigious Herndon Fellowship
INSTITUTE, W.Va. -- Two West Virginia State University students have been selected for the prestigious Judith A. Herndon Fellowship for the 2024 session of the state legislature. Senior social work majors Jessica Lacy and Sierra Williams were among only 10 students from around the state selected for the fellowship program.
“The Judith Herndon Fellowship is an amazing opportunity,” Lacy said. “When I made the decision to choose social work for my undergraduate major, I did so because I wanted to help the people in my community. I decided to pursue law after my undergraduate degree for the same reason. Ultimately, the laws that are written affect every facet of life for the people in our state, and the Judith Herndon Fellowship will allow me to learn how those laws are written and applied.”
The Herndon Fellowship is a prestigious and competitive process requiring an outstanding academic record in addition to the application, recommendation, and interview process.
“It was a huge honor to have the opportunity to spend my last semester working with our state’s legislature,” Williams said. “This experience will aid in my future career goals of working with the wonderful residents of West Virginia.”
The Herndon Fellows Program instructs selected full-time undergraduates from institutions of higher learning in West Virginia in the theory and operation of legislatures and legislative bodies in their multidimensional aspects and roles. To be eligible for the Fellowship program, a student must have completed at least 60 undergraduate semester hours and be in good academic standing.
