West Virginia State University Criminal Justice Program Ranked Among Nation’s Best

INSTITUTE, W.Va. -- The West Virginia State University (WVSU) Department of Criminal Justice has been ranked the 12th best bachelor of criminal justice degree program in the United States by online educational resource Study.com.

In the organization’s rankings of the top 50 criminal justice programs in the country, WVSU’s was ranked No. 12 based on factors such as internship opportunities with law enforcement agencies, professional experience of faculty members, accreditation from criminal justice and law enforcement organizations, and the availability of concentrations and certification programs in specific criminal justice fields.

“Our Criminal Justice Department at WVSU offers an in-seat and 100% online undergraduate program, which has been nationally recognized the last several years because of our experiential approach in teaching the foundational components of the criminal justice system,” said Dr. Leighann Davidson, chair of the criminal justice department. “All of our faculty have professional experience that enables them to bring the field into the classroom. Not only are our students learning the material, but they are also developing field applications. Our department is honored to receive this ranking and strives to continue educating the current and future criminal justice professionals and assisting them in achieving their goals.”

Criminal justice students may choose from four different concentrations within the field: courts/legal studies, law enforcement, corrections, and forensic investigations. Students enrolled in the bachelor's program have access to numerous internships and criminal justice conferences, providing real-world experience and connections, and an active chapter of Alpha Phi Sigma, the national criminal justice honor society.
