NAACP Student Oratorical Contest Friday

9/28/2011

The West Virginia State University student chapter of the NAACP will hold an Oratorical Contest at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 30 in the Davis Fine Arts theater. The event is part of the University’s Homecoming activities.

Eight students have registered to display their speaking talents on "A Student Perspective of West Virginia State University." A distinguished panel of independent judges will rate the performances. Prizes are $750 for first place and $300 for second place. The event is open to students, alumni, faculty, staff and the public.

History shows that oratorical contests were held on the campus as early as 1901. The current contest brings back that tradition. It is the first is what is planned to be a series.
