Homecoming week officially begins on September 27 with fun activities for the students on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Thursday, September 29

 The all-campus picnic is on Thursday, September 29 beginning at 11 a.m. on the Student Plaza.

The President's Circle invitation-only reception and dinner will begin at 6 p.m.

A Comedy show will take place at 8 p.m. in the Ferrell Hall auditorium featuring Maurice G., Antoine Scott, Showtime, and Buddy Lewis. Tickets are $5 for WVSU students and $10 for non students.

Friday, September 30

 Friday is Black and Gold Day - - everyone is encouraged to wear their black and gold attire or WVSU gear to show support for the Yellow Jackets.

The traditional ROTC Hall of Fame Induction will be held at 11 a.m. in the Davis Fine Arts theater. The ceremony honors those with WVSU connections who have a history of distinguished service in the military. This year's honoree is: Colonel (Ret.) Gary Allen Blackhurst ‘76.

At 1 p.m. is the NAACP Oratorical Contest in the Davis Fine Arts theater. Students will be speaking on "A Student Perspective of West Virginia State University."

At 3 p.m. also in the Davis Fine Arts theater, there will be an Alumni Forum, town-hall style meeting, focusing on topics such as"WVSU Today and Tomorrow", alumni relations, and financial support.

At 5 p.m. in the Ferrell Hall Auditorium, the coronation pageant will be held honoring the new Mr. and Miss State and their royal court.

Alumni will gather at the Embassy Suites at 7 p.m. for the Alumnus of the Year recognition and Class Reunion Dinner. Among them will be Ms Daisy Alston who is celebrating the 75thanniversary of her graduation.

At dusk on the campus students can gather at the bonfire on the practice football field.

Saturday, October 1

Homecoming Day kicks off on Saturday, October 1 at 8:30 a.m. with the "W" Club Sports Hall of Fame induction brunch honoring former Yellow Jacket athletes. The new members will don gold jackets and be welcomed into the Canty House, home of the Hall of Fame. Inductees are: Dr. William Kirk ‘71, Albert "Chubby" Hughes ‘73, Oliver Hunter ‘74, James "Jim" Russell Nash (deceased) ‘32, Harry J. Ravnel ‘83, Sheena Rosann Smithers Wolfe ‘05, and Steve Swayne ‘75.

The WVSU Foundation will host a Planned Giving seminar at 9:30 a.m. on the second floor of the Erickson Alumni Center. 

The Homecoming parade begins at 11 a.m. winding its way from Shawnee Park through the campus. Following the parade there will be special recognition of the WVSU Alumnus of the Year at the Erickson Alumni Center.

Fans can take in the tailgate parties, food vendors, and the kid's activities. The football game against Seton Hill begins at 1:30 p.m. at Lakin Field.

Following the game is the traditional President's Pig Roast on the Student Plaza. At 5 p.m. campus organizations will perform their acts at the Step Show in the Fleming Hall Gymnasium.

At 8 p.m., the "Taste of ‘State" buffet dinner will be held at the Embassy Suites featuring foods that alumni will associate with WVSU such as hot bologna sandwiches from Andy’s. A dance will follow.

Sunday, October 2

At 3 p.m. the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra returns to campus with performance in the Davis Fine Arts Theater.
