Institute, WV - West Virginia State University (WVSU) is proud to announce a new four-year scholarship for students. The Opportunity Scholarship is designed for West Virginia high school students who meet the University’s eligibility requirements, but did not receive the Promise Scholarship or other tuition assistance from WVSU. Students who qualify will be eligible to receive $1,000.00 per semester for four years, or approximately one-third the cost of WVSU in-state tuition, to assist in payment of tuition and fees.

Requirements for the Opportunity Scholarship are:

•           High school grade point average of 2.90 or above

•           Composite score of a minimum of 20 on the ACT or 910 on the SAT

•           Copy of high school transcript and ACT scores submitted by May 1 of the year the student plans to attend

Students must complete, sign, and submit an Opportunity Scholarship application prior to May 1 of each academic year that begins in August. To introduce parents and students to the new scholarship the deadline has been extended for this coming fall and applications are being accepted until August 1, 2011.

“West Virginia State University is proud to initiate the first WVSU Opportunity Scholarship Program.  This Scholarship can help pave the way for West Virginia high school graduates to receive a quality education,” said Dr. Hazo W. Carter, Jr., President of WVSU.
