Dear Student: Welcome to the "Yellowjacket Battalion"! ROTC is a dynamic and rewarding series of courses. It will assist you in meeting your goals and aspirations and help you begin your climb to a successful career.

Military Science or ROTC is an elective course of study specializing in management, leadership, and life skills. It's primary purpose is to produce junior officers in the United States Army, Army Reserve, National guard and future leaders for America.

The freshmen and sophomore classes focus on developing self confidence and basic leadership skills. They are taken without any obligation to the Army or any government service. The junior and senior years focus on developing the traits and skills necessary to become an Army Officer.

WVSU is widely known for the number of general officers who began their careers here. The members of the Yellowjacket Battalion take great pride in the training we provide and are committed to producing the very best to continue our rich legacy.

We produce tomorrow's leaders. You will receive some of the best and most challenging training you can get anywhere. Our cadets are consistently selected as campus and community leaders. They are well prepared to take their place not only as commissioned officers but as corporate and society leaders as well.

My cadre, the cadets, and I hope you will give ROTC a try and are looking forward to working with each and every one of you. You are joining a solid team of professionals. We will work hard with you to ensure your success.
