Mission Statement

The mission of the West Virginia State University Department of Public Safety is to contribute to the quality of campus life by fostering a safe, secure and tranquil environment supportive of the University's teaching and overall educational mission.

This is accomplished by maintaining a pro-active posture aimed at reducing opportunities for crime and by protecting the life and property of the members of the University Community.

The department works cooperatively with all campus units by offering instructions about personal safety measures, evaluating and recommending crime deterrent technologies and safety programs, encouraging professional development among its staff through training and leadershp, and making every effort to use resources efficiently and effectively.

In carrying out its goal and in living up to its "Partnership in Crime Prevention" motto, the departent strives to achieve an enviroment of mutual trust, respect and responsibility between its officers and the students, faculty and staff within the University Community.
