About MSASA
The Middle States African Studies Association (MSASA) is a regional organization that is currently housed in the Department of History at West Virginia State University. The membership of the association is comprised of institutions and interested individuals from the middle region of the United States, including, but not limited to the states of West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Ohio, Indiana, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, and Pennsylvania. Many of the individuals interested in this association have an interest in various aspects of Africa, the issues surrounding people of Africa, cultures and environments of Africa, Africans in the Americas, and the history of African Diaspora. Organizations, such as the Middle States African Studies Association provide avenues for the mentoring of untenured faculty, intellectual stimulation on African and African Diaspora issues and support not always found on their campuses for research on and about Africa, African peoples and other related matters.
