Foundation Annual Dinner
It was truly an “Inspiring Evening” when approximately two hundred guests and honorees were welcomed to The West Virginia State University (WVSU) Foundation’s Annual Dinner. This year, the Foundation hosted its 29th Annual Dinner on Thursday, May 25, 2006, at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Charleston, West Virginia. There was a guest reception from 6:00 to 7:25 p.m. with dinner starting at 7:30 p.m.
The Foundation honored two of our distinguished alumni, Gov. Joe Manchin III, who received an honorary Dr. of Laws Degree in Dec. 2005, and Dr. Reginald Lee, renowned dentist, Class of 1950. There were two outstanding student speakers, who were recipients of WVSU Scholarships, Mr. Mavery Davis and Ms. Meagan Estep. The annual dinner is the culmination of fundraising efforts for the Foundation for the year. Collectively this past year, the Foundation has raised $850,000, which is $100,000 over the 2005/2006 fundraising goal for annual giving of $750,000. Next year, our goal is to raise over $1,000,000.00.

The Foundation operates under a Board of Directors composed of outstanding and influential business leaders, alumni and members of the University staff. Foundation fund raising is for the purpose of creating, maintaining and perpetuating financial resources at a level guaranteed to insure quality education at West Virginia State University and West Virginia State Community and Technical College. With the goal of improving the quality of our students’ lives, as well as the quality of life for West Virginia’s citizens, we forge mutually beneficial relationships with other institutions, businesses, cultural organizations, governmental agencies, and agricultural and extension partners.
The Foundation has arranged scholarship programs, financial aid, funded and established professorial chairs and assisted many projects at the University. In addition to aiding students, the Foundation is a source of supplemental support for a variety of programs and faculty and staff projects that are not covered by state, Federal or corporate grant money. Through contributions, the Foundation has additional flexibility to help West Virginia State meet its needs.
