-A A +A

WELCOME!

At West Virginia State University your dreams for a quality education can become a reality. You can look forward to an excellent education at a very affordable price. Check out our Net Price Calculator it will show you how reasonably priced we really are! If you need help managing your educational budget, view our link to Cash Course.

Our purpose is to assist you with securing federal, state, and institutional financial aid to achieve your degree. You may receive aid in the form of scholarships, grants, work study or student loans.

In order to be successful in securing funds to pay for your education, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon after January 1 as possible. File your application at www.fafsa.ed.gov.  The closing date for financial assistance is April 16th for the Higher Education Grant (WV Residents Only) and June 30th for West Virginia State University to guarantee your financial aid award.  To assure your registration will be held, file one month prior to the closing date.  Also, respond promptly to all requests for information or documents from the Office of Student Financial Assistance. Failure to respond may cause delays, reductions, and/or cancellations of financial aid.

Our official form of communication is electronic mail. To stay informed, check your campus email address at least 3 times per week. Help us help you. Stay informed. We look forward to helping meet your educational needs.

SIGNIFICANT FINANCIAL AID CHANGES FOR 2012-2013

  • VERIFICATION PROCESS:

For the 2012-2013 academic year, financial aid offices can no longer accept signed copies of federal tax returns from students and parents for FAFSA Verification purposes. Verification is the process of confirming the information you and/or your parents reported on your FAFSA.  If selected for verification, a tax return transcript must be requested from the Internal Revenue Service.  You can request copies by phone, online, or mail.

  • PELL ELIGIBILITY CHANGE:

The Pell Grant Lifetime Eligibility has been changed from 18 semester to 12 semesters.  Effective 2012-2013 students are limited to 12 semesters (or the equivalent) of Pell.  Students will receive LEU (Lifetime Eligibility Used) information from the Department of Education when they file the FAFSA. .  Use this important change to plan the timeline of your degree program.  An explanation of how your eligibility is calculated can be explained at the following link:  http://studentaid.ed.gov/PORTALSWebApp/students/english/PellLimit.jsp

In mid-July 2012, students will be able to log on to the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) Student Access Web site using their Federal Student Aid PIN and view their LEU. The LEU will be found on the Financial Aid Review page.

E-MAIL NOTIFICATION POLICY

The official method of communication for the Office of Student Financial Assistance is the campus e-mail address provided through WVSU. To stay informed and aware, students should check this email address at least once per week.

New students who are not yet admitted to WVSU will be contacted initially using the email address supplied on the FAFSA. Once a student is admitted, and a campus email address is assigned, the Office of Student Financial Assistance will use only the campus assigned e-mail address.
