ADMISSION
FIRST-TIME STUDENTS who have never attended college must submit a WVSU application form, a high school transcript or GED certificate, and ACT or SAT scores to the Office of Admissions in 106 Ferrell Hall. Applications may be submitted online; other materials must be sent or brought to the Admissions Office in 106 Ferrell Hall. Spring high school graduates who have previously taken college courses in high school or on campus with special student status must complete the full admission process before taking summer classes.
TRANSFER STUDENTS who have attended other colleges must submit a WVSU application form and an official transcript from each college attended to the Office of Admissions. Transfer students who have completed 30 hours or less of college credits must also submit a high school transcript or GED certificate and ACT or SAT scores.
READMITTED STUDENTS who have previously attended WVSU or KVCTC (formerly WVSCTC) but are not currently enrolled or returning as transient students from another college must submit a WVSU readmission form to the Office of Registration and Records in 128 Ferrell Hall. Students on academic probation must have their readmission forms approved in the Office of Academic Affairs in 131 Ferrell Hall prior to registration.
TRANSIENT STUDENTS who are currently enrolled at other colleges must submit a WVSU application form and a transient approval form from the home institution.
POST-BACCALAUREATE STUDENTS taking undergraduate courses must submit a WVSU application form and either an undergraduate transcript or diploma as evidence of graduation.
GRADUATE STUDENTS who are applying for admission to the West Virginia State University masters degree programs in Biotechnology or Media Studies should complete WVSU graduate applications in the Office of Admissions or have graduate applications sent to them electronically by calling 304-766-3102 for Biotechnology or 304-766-3195 for Media Studies.

ACADEMIC ADVISING AND REGISTRATION
Every new, continuing, readmitted, and transfer student must see an academic advisor before registering. Academic advising and registration is done primarily through the college of the student’s major. Students who are undecided about a major should see an advisor in the college that most closely fits their interests. For assistance in choosing or locating advisors WVSU students should contact the Office of Academic Affairs in 131 Ferrell Hall or by phone at 304-766-3145.
CONTINUING STUDENTS should register for Summer Session 2010 online at the same time they register for Spring Semester 2010 during their assigned time slots November 2-13. These students may also continue to register online during open registration November 16-December 18 and January 15 through the first day of class for each session (May 24 for 3-week classes and June 14 for 6-week classes). Continuing students must see a departmental advisor and obtain a registration PIN before registering.
NEW FIRST-TIME STUDENTS who are fully admitted may register online for Summer Session 2010 during open registration November 16-December 18 and January 15 until classes begin for each session (May 24 for 3-week classes and June 14 for 6-week classes). New first-time students must see a departmental academic advisor and obtain a registration PIN before registering. Academic advisors will be available during regular office hours throughout the Fall and Spring Semesters and advisors will be in departmental offices on Friday, May 21, and Friday June 11.
READMITTED STUDENTS may register online for Summer Session 2010 at the same time they register for Spring Semester 2010 during open registration November 16-December 18 and January 15 through the first day of class for each session (May 24 for 3-week classes and June 14 for 6-week classes). Transient students are not required to see an academic advisor, but are welcome to consult departmental advisors for information regarding particular courses.
POST-BACCALAUREATE STUDENTS taking undergraduate courses may register in person at the Office of Registration and Records November 2-December 18 and January 15 through the first day of class for each session (May 24 for 3-week classes and June 14 for 6-week classes). These students may also obtain a registration PIN for online registration from Ms. Hunter in the Registrar’s Office (30-766-4146 or Dr. Teeuwissen in the Office of Academic Affairs (30-766-3147). Post-baccalaureate students are not required to see an academic advisor but are encouraged to do so if they need assistance.

BILLING AND PAYMENT
TUTION/FEES for Summer School are assessed on a per credit basis. Bills will be mailed to students registering for either session through April 30. For students registering after April 30, charges will show on their accounts as soon as they register, and the balances can be obtained by accessing accounts through My State (http://mystate.wvstateu.edu). Bills may also be issued to these students on request at the cashier’s window in Ferrell Hall.
PAY DATE: Whether or not they receive bill in the mail, all students registering through May 14 for either session must pay by May 14 to hold their classes in both sessions. Students registering for either session after May 14 must pay at the time of registration.
REFUNDS for students who withdraw from summer classes will be made in accordance with the dates on the 2010 Summer Session academic calendar. Beginning June 16 no refund will be made for a reduced schedule (dropping only one of two classes) in the 6-week session.
CREDIT CARDS: West Virginia State University accepts major credit cards at the cashier’s window in Ferrell Hall and at the bookstore in the Wilson Student Union.

ACADEMIC POLICIES
ACADEMIC LOAD: A student may take a maximum of three classes during Summer Session: one class in the 3-week session and two classes in the 6-week session. A student taking a summer-long class such as an internship or Co-op may take only two other classes. A student on academic probation may take only two classes during Summer Session.
WITHDRAWAL FROM COLLEGE/DROPPING A CLASS: See the 2010 Summer Session academic calendar for the dates governing the assignment of grades of W for classes dropped for each summer session.
COOPERATIVE EDUCATION: Eligible students may register for Co-op through June 4 for a maximum of three credits.
