West Virginia State University Choirs to Present Spring Concert Monday, March 10

INSTITUTE, W.Va. -- The West Virginia State University (WVSU) Department of Music will present the Spring Choral Concert: Celebration of Song on Monday, March 10 at 7:30 p.m. in the Davis Fine Arts Center Theater on the school’s Institute campus.

The event is free and open to the public.

The concert will feature student soloists, the WVSU Concert Choir and the State Singers Vocal Jazz Ensemble. Program selections will include vocal jazz, African-American spirituals, folksong and music by J.S. Bach, Joseph Haydn, Gabriel Jackson and Samuel Barber.

“The program includes music from a variety of styles and time periods. It has something for everyone,” said Director Dirk Johnson, Assistant Professor of Music at WVSU. “The singers have worked very hard to prepare a concert that will entertain and edify.”

The Department of Music presents concerts throughout the year showcasing the talents of WVSU students and faculty. Upcoming concerts highlight the University’s choirs, faculty, the Wind Ensemble, the Jazz Ensemble, student chamber groups and student soloists.
