INSTITUTE, W.Va. – West Virginia State University (WVSU) will hold the second annual Student Film and Video Festival on Wednesday, March 5, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Davis Fine Arts Center Theater. Admission is free and includes a reception before the awards ceremony. The festival is open to the public.

The festival will feature 27 works by college students and eight by area high school students. Categories include narrative, promotional and abstract production, said Festival Co-Director and WVSU Communications Instructor Sam Holdren.

“This is our way of fostering creativity, specifically in film, here at WVSU. Encouraging students to produce films is one way to help hone their skills and prepare for careers in news, public relations, marketing and related fields,” Holdren said.

Projects from Capital High School, Teays Valley Christian School and Wood County Technical Center will also be screened. Participants are encouraged to check in at the venue by 3:30 p.m.

“We are excited with the diversity and quality of this year’s entries,” Holdren said. “Our students presented music videos, suspense, comedy and a wide array of projects that, I’m sure, people will find very entertaining.”
