Belinda Fuller Named Interim Director of Alumni Relations

INSTITUTE, W.Va. -- West Virginia State University President Brian O. Hemphill has announced that Mrs. Belinda K. Fuller has been named as interim director for Alumni Relations.  She is a proud West Virginia State University alumna and lives in neighboring Dunbar.  Fuller graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Communications and worked as a temporary assistant in the President’s Office, while a student at State.  For the last 19 years, she has worked in WVSU’s James C. Wilson University Union, where she is currently a program coordinator.

In her current role, Fuller manages campus events for students, alumni, and community members.  She also plays a major role in Homecoming, planning special events for students, coordinating the tailgating vendors and assisting with the half-time events.

Since 2000, Fuller has served as the coach of the campus all-star challenge team, which is sponsored by American Honda Motor Company.  The Honda Campus All-Star Challenge is an academic quiz bowl competition for qualifying HBCU’s, held annually.  WVSU’s varsity team has been awarded $157,000 in earned grants from American Honda since the inception of the program in 1989.  A majority of these funds have been awarded under Fuller’s leadership.

She has been the recipient of numerous written and oral commendations from university staff, administrators and student organizations for her dedication and exceptional contributions to WVSU students.  Fuller was voted Staff Person of the Year by students several times and is known for being a student advocate.

She has sustained relationships with alumni during her time at State and she is excited about the opportunity to engage them in their local chapters of WVSU’s National Alumni Association.
