WVSU Presidential Search Final Candidates Selected

INSTITUTE, W.Va. -- The West Virginia State University (WVSU) Presidential Search Advisory Committee has selected three final candidates for consideration by the full Board of Governors and the entire campus community.

The final candidates include: Brian O’Harold Hemphill, Ph.D., Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management, Northern Illinois University, DeKalb, Illinois;  Alicia L. Jackson, Ph.D., Dean of the Sigmund Weis School of Business, Susquehanna University, Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania; and Donna H. Oliver, Ph.D., President, Mississippi Valley State University, Itta Bena, Mississippi.

The final candidates and their families will be invited to campus in the coming weeks to meet with campus and community constituent groups and tour the institution and the Kanawha Valley.  The visitation schedules for each of the candidates are being finalized and will be posted on the institution’s website at www.wvstateu.edu and distributed to the campus community in the coming days.

“Since the beginning of the calendar year, the Committee has worked diligently to identify a group of individuals who are capable of leading this great institution in the years to come,” said Larry L. Rowe, Board of Governors Chairman.  “I am very pleased with the level of education and experience of the final candidates and especially their enthusiasm for the University’s mission.  I am looking forward to working with Greenwood/Asher & Associates, Inc., the search consultant, and the Board of Governors, to schedule the campus visits in order to introduce these fine individuals to the community and the greater Kanawha Valley.”

The Presidential Search Advisory Committee was formed in January 2012 and included faculty, staff, students, members of the community, and Board of Governors members.  The 15-member Committee, led by Board of Governors members Leon Vincent Williams and John Thralls, was charged with recommending final candidates to the full Board of Governors, who will conduct the on-campus interviews and select the new president, subject to approval by the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission.
