WVSU Scholarships and Assistance:

FAFSA(Free Application for Federal Student Aid): All State students should file a FAFSA to receive any state or federal funds for which they are eligible. You can file online yourself through the FAFSA website, OR you can come to 327 Sullivan Hall East for staff assistance.

West Virginia State University provides several scholarships and financial assistance programs. Below are the current programs available for students through WVSU and its affliate organizations.

  • Opportunity Scholarship: The Opportunity Scholarship is designed for West Virginia high school seniors who meet the eligibility requirements and who do not receive the Promise Scholarship or other tuition assistance from WVSU. Students who qualify will be provided $1000 per semester for four years to assist in the payment of tuition and fees. Students must complete, sign, and submit an Opportunity Scholarship application prior to May 1 of the academic year that begins each August. Requirements for this scholarship are a high school grade point average of 2.90 or above and a composite ACT score of 20 or SAT score of 910. Copies of high school transcripts and ACT scores must be submitted by May 1st of the year the student plans to attend WVSU.
  • WVSU Foundation Scholarships: Awards provided through the WVSU Foundation are based on high academic performance, financial need, or a combination of these.   • Metro Tuition Program: The Metro Tuition Program allows discounted tuition rates, with a savings of approximately 25% of out-of-state tuition, to students who reside in eligible areas of the five states that border West Virginia. As tuition rates increase in our neighboring states, this program provides an affordable choice to those seeking a quality education.   • Additional Scholarship Options: Various departments, such as music, athletics, and ROTC also offer various types of scholarships in addition to the ones listed above. If you have a particular interest or talent, contact these departments directly. For information concerning other financial opportunities please refer to Financial Aid.
  • AMSTuition Payment Plan: AMS has partnered with WVSU to give you the opportunity to spread your tuition payments over 9 or 10 months. The deadline to enroll is August 25th, and there is a $50 fee to enroll in this ZERO INTEREST payment plan. The Internet provides today's students withunprecedented access to national and international scholarships and grants. The following resources have been compiled by the Office of Student Retention for student use. Caution: it takes time to browse and locate private scholarships and grants. Be prepared to start early and spend some time web-surfing ... it will pay off if you do so! The information below should assist you with your search.
