WVSU Campus Update

At West Virginia State University, all decisions that have been, and will be, made during the water situation are done so with student and employee health and safety as our number one priority. The University is adhering to all necessary and appropriate health and safety protocols. To help communicate with members of the State family, the University will continue to update this frequently asked questions webpage as deemed necessary.

1. Are the University dining options operating?
Due to the water crisis in early January 2014, under the authority of the Kanawha-Charleston Health Department, all restaurants located in the affected nine county area were forced to close. This closure included University dining options. The University’s on-campus dining options have all since been approved to reopen following inspection by the Kanawha-Charleston Health Department. Currently, all dining options located at our Institute campus are open and operating.

2. What actions has WVSU taken to ensure water quality on campus?
WVSU has flushed all campus water lines, including University housing locations, in accordance with the directions provided by West Virginia American Water Company and State of West Virginia health officials. WVSU has flushed all water lines twice as long as directed.  Please note tap water may still have an odor. Odors can be detected at levels far below the level that the CDC determines is protective of public health. The University continues to offer bottled water at locations throughout campus to those members of the State family who choose to use bottled water.

3. Is bottled water available on campus?
WVSU continues to make bottled water available at locations throughout campus. Bottled water locations include the Student Activities office, the Deans’ offices and Resident Life office in Sullivan Hall East. The University will continue to replenish our bottled water inventory for the foreseeable future.
