New Student Advising and Orientation

WELCOME! to the friends and family of new and transfer students to West Virginia State University for the 2013 Spring and/or Summer semesters.
If your student has been fully admitted to the University for the 2013 Spring and/or Summer semester – that means they have received their acceptance letter from the Admissions Office – and are invited to one of the Orientation, Advising, and Registration sessions either in December, 2012 or in January, 2013.  At these sessions, your son or daughter will receive their academic orientation, meet with advisors to select  classes, and register for classes.
The Orientation session begins at 9 a.m. in Ferrell Hall Auditorium on the second floor of Ferrell Hall (Ferrell Hall is the second building from the traffic light at Barron Drive).  It is important that new students arrive at the beginning and plan to remain until the ending time (usually around 12  or 12:30 p.m.).
While students already enrolled in West Virginia State University begin registering for the Spring semester in late October, new students will still have the opportunity to be ahead of others who wait to register at the last minute.  New students will have a better selection of classes from which to choose the sooner they attend Orientation.  In addition, students will be able to purchase  books at the Bookstore when the lines aren’t as long a week or two prior to classes.
Good luck!  If you have any questions, please call Mrs. Patricia M. Shafer at (304) 766-3063.  Or e-mail her at shaferpm@wvstateu.edu
