upward bound program positions

Program Description

Upward Bound Math Science and Classic Upward Bound are federally funded pre-college programs that prepare first-generation students for success in education beyond high school. These programs annually serve 150 students from Kanawha, Logan, Fayette and Logan counties. The average class size is 10 - 18 students.

Available Teaching Positions

  • Math Instructor (Geometry, Algebra II)

  • English

  • Robotics Instructor

  • Computer Technology Instructor

  • Forensic Science Lab Instructor

Instructors are responsible for teaching approximately four hours each day in their respective discipline (Monday through Friday). In addition, all instructors are expected to:
  • Develop innovative and interactive instructional programs to engage students

  • Maintain a positive learning environment

  • Maintain attendance, grade, and evaluation records for assigned students on a weekly basis

  • Prepare weekly lesson plans and homework schedules

  • Attend and participate in staff meetings, parent/student summer orientation, awards ceremony, family picnic and UB Olympics

Qualifications

  • West Virginia teaching certificate or demonstrated knowledge and the ability to develop innovative and interactive instructional courses that will engage and inspire students.
  • Instructors selected to interview will be required to present a brief lesson demonstration as part of the interview process.
