Dr. Danny  Cantrell

Danny Cantrell has worked at West Virginia State University (WVSU) since 1989, first as an adjunct English instructor, and later as the reading and writing instructor for the ROTC Enhanced Skills Training Program (ROTC-EST). During the 1990’s, he created and taught the first two classes at WVSU devoted to Internet information management and Internet commerce.

Since 2002, he has been the coordinator of institutional research, except for serving for three years as the director of Enrollment Management in Student Affairs. His current duties include coordinating the completion of the federal IPEDS and other external surveys, as well as providing data for internal constituents and reports such as the institutional compact and reaffirmation of accreditation data. He has served in recent years as WVSU’s DPAC representative to the WV Higher Education Policy Commission.

His education includes an associate degree in Mining Engineering Technology, a Bachelor’s and a Master's in English from Concord and Marshall Universities, respectively, and a Educational Doctorate Degree in Leadership Studies in Higher Education Administration from Marshall University.

He and his wife, Connie, enjoy spending time with their three children and eleven grandchildren. He enjoys photography, travel, caring for three cats and one dog, and providing spring and summer housing for the purple martins when they migrate from Brazil each year.

He is a lifelong resident of West Virginia, and serves on the three-member Culloden Public Service district in his home community. He is the author of one novel and one non-fiction book.
