WVSU | West Virginia State University
Scholarships are available now!!!!  Of course there is no such thing as free money... so what's the catch for ROTC?

We're looking for the best and brightest students, those who exhibit excellent grades, athletic ability, teamwork, and dedication.  We have various amounts to award qualified and contracted students each year.

National Scholarships (High School and College Students):

Take a look at THIS LINK or goto www.goarmy.com to find more information.

With today's fiscal constraints, US Army Cadet Command will offer fewer 4 year scholarships, however WVSU Army ROTC will continue to offer 3 year campus-based scholarships to deserving (qualified) students.

Still have questions?  Just stop by the Ferguson-Lincoln building and ask any of our military faculty or call (304) 766-3295.  Whether you're a college-bound high school student or already attending a college or university, Army ROTC has a large number of scholarships available. Scholarships are awarded based on a student's merit and grades, not financial need.

Army ROTC scholarships consist of:

•Two-, three-, and four-year scholarship options based on the time remaining to complete your degree
•Full-tuition scholarships
•The option for room and board in place of tuition, if you should qualify
•Additional allowances for books and fees

Guaranteed Reserve Forces Duty (GRFD) Scholarships:

Students enrolled in Army ROTC at WVSU (or partnership schools) may request a GRFD scholarship prior to contracting. This scholarship offers money towards tuition or housing and guarantees the Cadet that they will be assigned to the reserve forces (USAR or National Guard) upon commissioning.

This program consists of three types of GRFD (Guaranteed Reserve Forces Duty) Scholarships: GRFD Dedicated ARNG (Army National Guard) Scholarship, GRFD Dedicated USAR (US Army Reserves) Scholarship, and GRFD Scholarships where the cadet can assess into either the NG or USAR.

The GRFD program allows individuals to be on scholarship, provide guaranteed service in the ARNG or USAR and requires the student to participate in the Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP).  Cadets will receive scholarship money for either tuition or room & board (housing & meals).  The SMP contract functions as an “on the job training” or a monthly internship opportunity for Cadets to learn valuable leadership skills during the monthly weekend drills.

GRFD Scholarship recipients may not request conversion of or revocation of their GRFD Scholarship contracts.  In other words, once you receive a GRFD scholarship, you can’t change your mind and ask for active duty.

GRFD Scholarship money can be used for either Room and Board or Tuition and Fees. If Scholarship money is used towards Room and Board, Federal Tuition Assistance (or WVNG state tuition assistance) can be used to pay for tuition. Room and Board amounts are taxable monies paid directly to the Cadet and are determined by an average or aggregate of the area.  If GRFD Scholarship money is used for Tuition and Fees, then Federal/State Tuition Assistance cannot be used for Room and Board.

Living Expenses

Contracted Army ROTC Cadets also receive a monthly “stipend” to cover living allowances. You can earn various amounts depending on your level in the Army ROTC curriculum:

• 1st year, $300 per month
• 2nd year, $350 per month
• 3rd year, $450 per month
• 4th year, $500 per month

This allowance is available to all contracted scholarship and non-scholarship Cadets
